Hurricane Ike benefit music

It has been two weeks since Hurricane Ike came ashore at Galveston, and there are a great many people in need in Southeast Texas. The immediate government response is scaling back and the social agencies are taking over the task of helping people who have suffered storm losses. The Houston Food Bank is currently serving four times as many clients as usual, and most of these people have never had to stand in line for food before. The Houston animal shelters are inundated with lost pets. East of Houston, the Golden Triangle communities of Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange were completely overwhelmed by storm surge.

In a time like this, we all wish we could do something to help, but are not close enough to sort food at the Food Bank, or haul kitty litter to the SPCA.

I am not one that comes on the -L with encouragement to take a look at this piece or that piece of mine, but today I come to you to ask you to take a look at a new composition entitled “Toccata on St. Denio” which I have written and put on the web. A $25 contribution to one of the many local and denominational agencies that are at work here on the Texas coast will get you a master copy of this piece for your group to use.

Please check out http://www.houstonhandbells.org/ike.html . The details are there. You can write to me at sondraKtucker@comcast.net if you have any questions.

My family is lucky. We had minor damage and comparatively minor frustrations and inconveniences. Many families have lost everything: their homes, automobiles, and livelihoods. Any help that I can give is offered with a thankful heart for your generosity.

Thanks,
Sondra Tucker
