Looking for a Christmas treat to remember? What better than a special steam day out to the fascinating, historic cities of York or Lincoln?

Heritage rail tour operator The Railway Touring Company has organised two festive, steam specials from Stevenage and Peterborough. Hauled by the magnificent 1930s, steam locomotive, ex LNER A4 Pacific 60019 Bittern, The Christmas White Rose to York and The Lindum Fayre to Lincoln offer the chance to relive the golden age of steam travel.

To mark the 40th anniversary of British Railways’ last steam service in 1968, The Railway Touring Company is providing four pairs of Premier Dining tickets, worth £358 a pair, for the lucky winners of our ‘Golden Age of Steam Competition’.

Our fortunate winners will travel on board the vintage rail coaches of The Christmas White Rose or The Lindum Fayre and enjoy the luxury of a full English breakfast, light lunch and four course dinner served at their seat.

This classic day out promises to combine an exciting, fast run on the main East Coast Line and the attractions of York with its Minister, famous Shambles, shops and, of course, the National Railway Museum.

The Lindum Fayre will steam to Lincoln’s Christmas Market on Sunday, December 7. Reputedly the largest Christmas market in Europe, The Lindum Fayre is set around the Norman Castle and 12th Century cathedral. 350 stalls, period costume, music, hand bell ringers, fairy lights, hot chestnuts and street theatre will bring the city to life.

Passengers will be joined on both steam trains by Father Christmas and his Elves.

Tickets for The Christmas White Rose and The Lindum Fayre include Standard adult from £78, First Class adult from £109, Premier Dining adult from £179. Family tickets include Standard from £210, First Class from £320 and Premier Dining from £495. Junior tickets are available and there will be a buffet car serving light refreshments.
