The Bob Jones Academy Vibrations will present a Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 5, in our school auditorium (1700 Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville, SC 29614). The 17 ninth through twelfth graders play six octaves of Malmark bells and five and a half octaves of Choirchimes. We’re serving hot beverages and Christmas cookies before the concert, and we’d love to have anyone in the area join us! For more information, contact ntipton@bju.edu.
Our program is as follows:
(We added some extra timbres–I hope the arrangers/composers don’t mind! ! It’s hard to keep 17 teenagers busy . . . )
THE DAWN OF REDEEMING GRACE
“Change Ring Prelude on Divinum Mysterium” by Gramann (with harp added; they play this unconducted and have really started to gel as an ensemble on it–their performance this morning during class was very moving, and it’s one of their favorite pieces) “Silent Night” by Dobrinski (with chimes ringing the solo part) “On Christmas Day in the Morn” by Gramann “The Gift of Grace” by Sherman (with suspended cymbal in spots) “On Christmas Day in the Morn” by Moklebust (with tenor drum, tambourine, and triangle)
WINTER NIGHTS
“Let It Snow” by Wagner
“White Christmas” by Dobrinski (with chime duet added) “On Christmas Night” by Helman (with bass line doubled with low chimes on Wexford sections and glockenspiel emphasizing inner melodies on Sussex section) “Nocturne No. 2 in C minor” by Helman (after the initial weeks of kicking and screaming about this piece, they’ve finally given in and learned to play this with tenderness and sensitivity; they won’t admit it to my face, but I think they’re actually beginning to like it
) “A Charlie Brown Christmas” by McChesney “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Wagner
