The Blue Ridge Area Handbell festival is now an AGEHR Area III festival, to be held April 24-25, 2009, at the Bonclarken Conference Center in Flat Rock, NC. It outgrew its former venue in Hendersonville and we hope this one will accommodate everyone.
Lee Afdahl will be our guest director. Bonclarken is a beautiful, woodsy conference site and this year there is a lodging & meals package available for those who wish to spend the night — you might want to try it out even if you haven’t spent the night before.
The Repertoire, Lee’s Performance Notes, Lodging, Registration information and forms are available at:
http://www.areaiii.org/events/festivals2009/blue_ridge09.htm
http://blueridgefestival.tripod.com has information and history of the event. Registration only through the Area III website www.areaiii.org.
Classes will be offered for the first time. Probable classes are: Rhythm, Treble Bell Techniques, Bass Bell Techniques, Performance Evaluation, a Reading Session, and possibly Change Ringing on Handbells.
Ringers and groups on the “Fringes” of western North Carolina are welcome and encouraged to attend! Flat Rock and Hendersonville are on the ‘Fringe’ of Area III. Some in South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia are also on the ‘Fringes’ of your AGEHR areas — closer to Flat Rock, North Carolina than to many events in your own areas. So come join us! This Festival is a “Fringe Benefit”!!
This is a new venue and new almost everything for the Blue Ridge Area Handbell festival that has been in Hendersonville for 15 years. We hope it will be a ‘new and improved’ handbell event and we invite you to help make its maiden voyage a success — it will happen again in 2010 only if 2009 is successful! There is room for more ringers and more bells so no one will be turned down. Registration Deadline is February 28.
