What a great concert was presented Jan. 11. It was the River Ringers Community Handbell Choir under the direction of Jennifer M. Whitenack. Asbury United Methodist Church hosted the event. That group of musical professionals is to be highly commended. Those in the group are Myrtie Schilling, Laura Davis, Sue Snell, Martha Jablonski, Lynn Morgan, Ellison Elmer, AnneMarie Gianfagna, Nikki Gill, Phyllis Elmer, Michele Bariteau and Nancy Boynton.
David Elmer, a premier ringer on educational leave, was enticed to play the huge G2 bell at the end. Jennifer Whitenack added her bassoon as the handbell choir played “Ding Dong Merrily on High.”
Dr. Al Gianfagna added his expertise on the clarinet to play along with the bells for “Rise Up, Shepherd and Follow.” Zachary J. Whitenack emceed the program, adding his touch of humor with continuing witticisms and wearing various hats as he introduced the selections.
Chuckles and a relaxed atmosphere along with very professional musicianship made it a don’t-miss-this-next-time. The Urban Mission will receive $300 from the free-will offering.
