Hey, all. Velocity has just made the finals in a local contest! Not exactly on the caliber of the Yo Yo Ma contest, but hey, we’ll take anything we can get. (And congratulations, btw, to Kevin McChesney and the Pikes Peak Ringers!)
The contest is a local VERY small town version of the America’s Got Talent television show. Our “big name” judge is Cathy Lee Crosby, if you’re old enough to know who she is. We were passed through after our trio version of Velocity (Jeannine Schwartz, Joel Gingrich and I) played Boude Moore’s Scherzo on Hyfrydol at Sunday’s semifinals – we were very amazed. But I think amidst a bunch of singers, we’re basically the novelty act. Now we just have to convince the audience and the judges at the finale that a bunch of middle-aged, semi-professional, quasi-musicians on a novelty instrument really can be entertaining. (Heh, heh! We’ve got our work cut out for us….)
We’ll be competing in the final concert to be held at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore, California. If you’re interested in attending and yelling for us when we take the stage, here’s the Web site for more information on the contest:
