Ring those bells! The bellringers from St. Mark’s Anglican Church and Trinity College School in Port Hope are planning a May trip to Washington D. C.
A series of fundraising events are planned to enable several young people (with adult chaperones) to make the trip.
This Friday, April 24, from 10 a. m. to 8 p. m., Randy Mills, organist at St Mark’s and Trinity College School, Port Hope, will play all 769 music items in the Anglican Common Praise Hymnal on St Mark’s Gabriel Kney pipe organ.
The public is welcome to drop into the church during the day. Pledges are being sought to help send the young ringers and singers to Washington during the May Victoria Day weekend.
Mills has never played this many hymns at one go, but he and the pipe organ are both expected to survive the attempt.
Then, on Sunday, May 3, at 3 p. m., there will be a concert in St. Mark’s Church, King Street, Port Hope.
A group of young people -ages eight to 23 – will ring a variety of handbell music which they will perform in the U. S. later in the month.
The ringers, drawn from St. Mark’s and Trinity College School, will present a fundraising concert as they prepare to visit Rixeyville, Virginia and Washington D. C. Included in the concert will be solos by Ellen Torrie of C. R. Gummow Public School in Cobourg and Elizabeth Barlow of Grafton.
Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.
