Repost from Handbell-l

The AGEHR Area XII Board, with considerable pride and enthusiasm, announces the winning composer in our 2010 Ringers’ Conference Composition Competition. The honor is awarded to Mr. Michael Mazzatenta of Mesa, AZ for his composition, “Renewed Spirit.” With an engaging melodic line, compelling rhythmic interest, and elegant musical expression, this piece is sure to be a conference favorite.

AGEHR Publishing anticipates availability of the piece by fall 2009. “Renewed Spirit,” under the direction of Ms. Debbie Rice, will be a massed ring selection at the 2010 AGEHR Conference at the University of California, Davis.

Honorable Mention is awarded to Mr. William Aprile of Modesto, CA for “Perpetual Bronze.” This energetic composition that exquisitely demonstrates the potential of handbells promises to keep ringers on their toes. At the 2010 Conference, it will be highlighted in the feature concert performed by the “Odyssey Ensemble” under the baton of Dr. William Payn.
