A Mass of Roman Catholic Burial for Nathan Joseph Cannella will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2009 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. Reverend James Ferguson will be officiating assisted by grandson, Matthew Bonner, as altar boy. The burial will be held in the Alexandria Memorial Garden.

Mr. Cannella was a U.S. Marine from 1956-1958. He taught music at Pollock-Georgetown elementary for 1 year, Pineville Jr. High from 1962-1976, and several 6th grade elementary schools. From 1966 until his death, he worked as a music therapist for Pinecrest where he started the Pinecrest Bell Choir and developed hand bell sign movements for children with handicaps. From ages 15-18 he served as an organist at St. Peters Church in Melville, LA. From 1963-1980, he served as organist and choir director at Sacred Heart Church in Pineville and was an occasional organist at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in Alexandria.
