Back in 2000, Picard had seen a demonstration featuring the trading cards.
“I thought, ‘I’ll never paint anything that small,’” Picard said. “(Then) I got hooked.”
Since that time, Picard has created 700 cards, sold 200 and traded the rest.
She uses mainly watercolors for her cards, but sometimes she will mix in some pen and ink.
Some of Picard’s favorite cards are one that she created featuring a handbell, as well as a pen-and-ink drawing from Kansas of a barn, silo and old car.
Picard believes that it is harder to paint on a smaller scale.
“I love to splash colors,” Picard said. “When I do pen and ink, I like the small size.”
